When Iris and Emanuel reached out about their intimate Jewish wedding on the island of Mljet, I knew it was going to be something special. Mljet, a national park and one of the most beautiful islands in Croatia, provided the perfect backdrop for their meaningful celebration. Surrounded only by their closest family and friends, they embraced simplicity, serenity, and the deep traditions of their heritage.
The ceremony took place on the pier of their accommodation, where they built a chuppah—a symbolic Jewish wedding canopy. The stillness of the sea, the golden afternoon light, and the sound of gentle waves created an atmosphere you only see in movies (and now, luckily, in their photo gallery). Guided by a rabbi, Iris and Emanuel exchanged their vows in an emotional and heartfelt ceremony that left everyone teary-eyed, including me behind the camera.
It was my first time photographing a Jewish wedding in Croatia, and I was honored to be part of it. Saying “mazel tov” out loud felt like a beautiful closing note to a moment I’ll never forget.
After the ceremony, we snuck away to a nearby beach for a short but magical photo session. Barefoot in the sand, with the sun setting behind them, Iris and Emanuel looked like they had stepped straight out of a dream. Later, they celebrated with dinner at a charming local restaurant—nothing extravagant, just good food, laughter, and love. And really, that’s all you need.
As a wedding photographer, I’ve seen many kinds of weddings—grand, rustic, urban, boho—but there’s something truly special about an intimate wedding like this. No rush. No pressure. Just two people, deeply in love, choosing to start their life together in one of the most peaceful corners of Croatia.
